Just like 0.99 Xboxs but the shipping would be $300 :P

I assume he thinks it’s a scam. I think he has a higher opinion of what the normal non-scam level of professionalism is on eBay than I do. The price isn’t *that* much of a red flag because the prices have cratered on those and they’re old and LCD, but he may not know that either. I’ve been around people dumping things for just-barely-worth-giving-a-shit prices from office supplies - not really that unusual.

Doesn’t seem that crazy. People get rid of stuff like this for cheap all the time. Plus, scamming someone out of $35 would not be worth it at all.

I’d argue that the seller could have meant it includes the power cord - not any other cords.
Fortunately, PayPal’s protection policy isn’t all that bad. So you’d either get a monitor and power cord for $35+shipping, or you’d get just a power cord and PayPal would refund you your $35+shipping.

It’s not uncommon to see new 21.5" displays for $80, and even $70 from time to time. I don’t think it’s impossible that someone would sell them used for $35.

I wish we had them here. My office is littered with 19" displays (both 16:9 and 4:3), and even some 17"ers. Been trying to get some 1080p displays for months, but money is tight and we are being penny-wise and pound foolish. Probably will just buy a pair on my own...

Look at the cost of shipping.
![]() 04/25/2016 at 15:19 |

I see. That is a little steep, given that these weigh basically nothing.
![]() 04/25/2016 at 15:20 |

That’s the scam though. A cheap item with ridiculous shipping.

this sale by the same guy is more confounding:

$35 for the item, $85 for the shipping.

Oh - I must be blind.

It’s showing $30.30 for me. It must be something screwy with eBay’s shipping calculator.
![]() 04/25/2016 at 15:50 |

The number I see is more reasonable. May be some fluke with IL -> Cali shipping.

“Scam” is a strong word even when the shipping/handling costs are elevated. However, I’m showing a pretty low cost of shipping, so it may only be conditionally high.

It says $45 for shipping when I look at it. What does it say for you?

A vast right-wing conspiracy.
![]() 04/25/2016 at 15:55 |

$30.30. IL to NC. It was showing something like $85 to O.C.

Without the HDMI port, $35 is about right, as you state. You called it, though.
![]() 04/25/2016 at 15:57 |

Hmm. Maybe it’s not a scam, just a really expensive shipping company.

I would not at all be surprised if there’s some way to set things up poorly in the USPS system where it would vomit illogical numbers with over $40 variation. While in theory I think one could set the item cost extremely low and the shipping high in order to (in theory) scam eBay out of a portion of their cut on the sale, I don’t think that’s happening here. Just a gang-bang of drunk communication electrons inside eBay’s shipping tool.

My money is on poorly optimized AKA totally buggernuts processing via USPS.
